Erling Haaland created Premier League history

Erling Haaland’s goal in the last minute not only helped Man City secure a 4-1 victory over Arsenal but also helped him break a great record in the Premier League.

Erling Haaland created Premier League history

Contrary to fans’ expectations of a closely contested match, the home team Man City dominated against the league leaders Arsenal and easily won with a 4-1 margin in the 33rd round of the Premier League.

In this match, striker Erling Haaland continued to shine brightly with one goal and two assists, not to mention several shots that were denied by the outstanding goalkeeper Ramsdale.

However, Haaland’s left-footed shot that found the back of the net in the 90+5th minute helped him enter history as the player with the most goals in a Premier League season (38 rounds).

In his first season joining Man City, the 22-year-old striker reached 33 goals, breaking the record held by Mohamed Salah (32 goals in the 2017/18 season). Behind him are three legendary players who scored 31 goals: Alan Shearer (1995/96), Cristiano Ronaldo (2007/08), and Luis Suarez (2013/14).

With 7 games left, Haaland even has the chance to break the all-time Premier League goal-scoring record held by the legendary duo of Andy Cole and Shearer with 34 goals, which was achieved when the English Premier League was still played over 42 rounds.

Across all competitions, Erling Haaland has scored a total of 49 goals and helped Man City to be in a position to “win the historic treble” this season (consisting of the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup).

Man City have reached the Champions League semifinals to face their opponents from last season, Real Madrid, who defeated them. The Citizens also defeated Sheffield United to advance to the FA Cup final against their neighbors, Man Utd.

With the victory over Arsenal in this round, Man City have narrowed the gap to the top spot held by the “Gunners” to just 2 points, but they still have two games less to play. With a relatively easier fixture schedule compared to Arsenal in the remaining 5 rounds, the Etihad home team is in a position to win their 5th Premier League title under coach Pep Guardiola.
