Erling Haaland set countless records after Man City’s 7-0 victory

With 5 goals scored against Leipzig, Erling Haaland not only helped Man City secure a place in the Champions League quarter-finals but also set numerous incredible records himself.

Erling Haaland set countless records after Man City's 7-0 victory

The Norwegian forward scored 5 goals in just 35 minutes (from the 22nd to the 57th minute) to bring his total number of goals in this incredible season to 39 goals in 35 matches.

This total number of goals helped Erling Haaland break the all-time record for most goals scored in a season for Man City, a record set by Tommy Johnson 94 years ago. This record will continue to rise as Man City enters the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and there are still 11 rounds left in the Premier League.

Notably, Erling Haaland quickly scored a hat trick in the first half, making it his fifth hat trick of the season. The 22-year-old striker now has 9 incredible goals in the Champions League this season, becoming the fastest player to score 30 goals in this tournament.

The previous record for scoring 30 goals the fastest belonged to Ruud Van Nistelrooy after 34 matches, but the Norwegian star only took 25 matches to surpass the former Man Utd star.

To compare, Wayne Rooney needed 85 matches to score 30 goals in the Champions League, while legends like Samuel Eto’o and Kaka took 55 matches to achieve that number.

Erling Haaland also became the youngest player to reach the 30-goal milestone in the Champions League, surpassing Kylian Mbappe. Haaland reached this milestone at just 22 years and 236 days old, beating the previous record of 22 years and 352 days set by Mbappe.

Although he scored 5 goals against Leipzig, Haaland is only the third player in the history of the tournament to achieve this in a single Champions League match (after Lionel Messi in 2012 and Luiz Adriano in 2014).

However, the 5 goals scored in a single season (in just one match) made Haaland the first Premier League player to do so since Harry Kane in the 2016-17 season.

“He achieved those records at the age of 22, he will feel bored in the future!” praised Pep Guardiola of his favorite student after the victory against Leipzig.
