Lionel Messi reaffirms to extend his contract at Paris St Germain
Messi has told his teammates on the Argentina national team about the possibility of staying with Paris Saint Germain (PSG) for another season.
Messi’s contract with PSG will expire at the end of this season, with both parties having the option to automatically extend it for another year. Recently, the future of the Argentine superstar has been talked about quite a bit, as he has received interest from Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia) and Inter Miami (USA).
However, it seems that Messi has given his final answer about his future. According to the Daily Mail, the forward has told his Argentina teammates about the possibility of staying with PSG for another season before moving to the United States to play.
According to the same newspaper, Messi has had discussions with PSG. He feels that staying with the Parisian team is the most feasible scenario. After that, he will move to the US to retire.
Inter Miami has expressed interest in Messi. They have even created an opportunity for El Pulga to invest in the club. However, the number 10 superstar believes that now is not the time to make a hasty decision.
Messi still desires to win another Champions League title before retiring from top-level football and moving to the United States to play. The last time El Pulga won this title was in 2015 while playing for Barcelona.
Before deciding to stay at PSG, Messi wants to see the team’s development plan. The French team is expected to make some changes to its management structure after this season. The future of coach Christophe Galtier and sporting director Luis Campos is in doubt.
PSG wants to do everything possible to win the Champions League title after missing out for many years. However, their biggest obstacle is the Financial Fair Play rules.
Currently, PSG is burdened with a huge wage bill, and Messi accounts for a significant portion of it, receiving £740,000 per week. Therefore, it is not unlikely that El Pulga will have to take a pay cut if he wants to stay at the Parc des Princes.
